In no particular order, here are my thoughts…

💡 Principle 1: keep it simple!
</aside>
- The hardest thing to do in business is keep it simple
- You don’t need a 50-tab financial model, you don’t need a complicated earn-out structure, you don’t need to use jargon language when communicating

💡 Principle 2: EQ over IQ, in most situations
</aside>
- The people who succeed in business are those who have empathy, are great communicators; those who have high EQ
- EQ is a far more important for entrepreneurial success than IQ, according to studies of >65,000 businesses - link

💡 Principle 3: business is about being able to identify and understand patterns, in a similar way to chess
</aside>
- A breadth of experience across different industries, sectors, working with different colleagues and leaders give you a broad base of experience
- The skill of business is being able to apply the right lessons & patterns you have identified to the right situations which subsequently arises

💡 Principle 4: manage expectations of those around you and over-communicate
</aside>
- Over-communication will allow you to bring those around you on the journey with you. It is always better to be open & honest and over-share, rather than not sharing. Remember those times where you did not have context as an early employee and how frustrating it was(!)
- This goes hand-in-hand with managing the expectations of those around you; typically it makes more sense to under-promise and over-deliver
